A
sixth generation native Texan and
lifelong resident of the Dallas-Fort
Worth area, Coppell City Council
Member Marsha Tunnell has served
the city 22 of the 26 years she
has been a resident. A synopsis
of her municipal service:
* First elected to Coppell city council
in 1995, Tunnell has run unopposed in
five elections. She served as mayor pro
tem from 1997 through 2000.
* Tunnell served nine years on the planning
and zoning commission, from 1986 through
1995, a period of rapid development for
Coppell, chairing it two years, and served
on sub-committees to review and revise
the city’s master plan and zoning.
* In 1985, Tunnell was one of 15 citizens
appointed by the Coppell City Council
to draft a home rule charter, which was
approved by the citizens in January 1986.
* Tunnell has represented Coppell at
the state level, having appointments
to: the Texas Municipal League (TML)
Community and Economic Development (CED)
legislative policy committee and chair
of multiple CED subcommittees and task
forces; TML Resolutions, Development
Regulations Policy and Eminent Domain
committees.
* National League of Cities appointments
have included leadership positions on
steering committees of both the Community
and Economic Development Committee and
Small Cities Council. She was in NLC’s
inaugural class to receive the Leadership
Training Institute Gold Level Certificate
of Achievement.
* Other appointments have included: Texas
Attorney General’s Municipal Advisory
Committee; D-FW Film Commission Board,
North Texas Commission, North Texas Council
on Governments and the Metrocrest Social
Services Board.
